This Experiment Was A Success

I just want to say I’m extremely grateful to the IADAS and Webby Awards judges for picking this site to be honored at this years ceremony. What started out as a social experiment in anonymous giving quickly became an addiction, which like anything, will bleed you dry. I got addicted to the feeling of knowing, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that I was going to influence somebody’s day in a positive way. I wasn’t bribing people to feel good. What I was doing was giving them a pat on the back from the universe and giving them a memory that they will carry forever.

Shortly after it was announced that I won the Webby, I went to go take the garbage out at my apartment complex (which requires getting in a car WITH said garbage). As I got out to toss the trash, I found a $20 bill. It doesn’t sound like a lot of money, and it’s not, but when you did nothing for it, except take out the garbage so your wife doesn’t have to, you get the feeling that the universe is just.

You can’t pay it forward anymore because things move too quickly. The internet has connected us all in such a way that paying it forward is immediately followed by being paid back, and being selfish goes public in a way that makes it hard to escape. You can’t make a move anymore without people seeing it. For people like me, this is a good thing because I try my best to do good. For those living in the shadows who don’t know the meaning of above board, your time is limited. It’s not just big brother watching anymore. It’s little sister, neighbor, cousin, friend from 10th grade, Ryan Gosling, etc.

Everybody can see you, so act like you’re something to be seen.

I will be on hiatus from updating this website for a while but you can keep up with me on Twitter @georgeresch or over at my new blog http://www.ayearinmeetings.tumblr.com
Of course http://www.facebook.com/georgeresch is a great way to keep in touch as well.

I’m just trying to do as much good as possible while I’m still alive.

Sweaty and Red From The Tanning Bed

Yeah I go tanning every once in a while. So what? I like to be bronze and beautiful! Okay, I get red. I don’t go tanning. I go redding. It’s just how it is, but in the middle of a run or rainy days, it definitely makes me feel better. Everybody loves vitamin D. I was just trying to pass that feeling along, when I did what I did in the tanning salon. Hey, at least I didn’t bring a five year old in there with me! And at least I don’t have a Nutella face!

I got your tanning tax right here.

The bed was so hot and I didn’t have a towel, so I thought to myself “I’ll just wipe the sweat from my bald head with a tissue”. I only needed to remove enough so that I didn’t look like a total gorilla when I walked out. I saw the tissue box and I had an idea.

I thought “Maybe somebody will be in here just as sweaty as me. They’ll be burning to a crisp and they’ll reach for a tissue.” How great would it be if you found THIS as you pulled a sheet out??!

BOOM!! Now you got a tan and some money in your hand! Who’s better than you?

2012 Webby Award Winner!

Thank you thank you bo bank you banana fanna fo fank you, me mi mo mank you.

Thank you!

Thanks to everybody near and far that supported me and understood what I was doing from the very get go. And thanks also to those of you that were confused by the concept at first but took the time to see deeper and truly understand my motives for doing this.

If you still don’t understand why I was leaving $5 bills around New York City with little platonic love notes attached, then you’re the type of person that I hope finds the money the most, because you need it! You don’t need the money, you need the FEELING of finding money. You need a quick reminder that the world IS out for your best interest and we’re all doing the best we can with the tools we’ve been given. If you feel like the world is out to get you and life is always happening to you, you’re the type of person I was leaving the money for.

If you didn’t come across any of my bills on the street this past December, keep your eyes peeled this coming holiday season. There just might be a gift on the ground just for you!

All the best,

George Resch
